About NHRA

Established in 1951, the National Human Resources Association (NHRA) is a network of local affiliates focused on advancing the development of human resource professionals. Through programs and services offered across the country, NHRA strives to support human resource professionals throughout their career life cycle - from intern to executive - as Human Resources leads the way for change in today's businesses. The misson of the NHRA Board is to serve and support our affiliates in providing networking forums and professional development for their members.

The human resources profession has changed dramatically in the past century. Gone are the days when HR's primary functions were hiring, policing and paper pushing. In today's dynamic workplace, human resource professionals are expected to add value to their organizations. In addition to managing traditional human resource functions, HR is expected to contribute to such key organizational challenges as facilitating mergers and acquisitions, improving productivity and quality, improving the ability of an organization to bring new products to market, and to continuously improve the company's return on its greatest asset...its people.

Let NHRA be your career partner...together we can lead the way to the future of human resources!

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Dear Human Resources Colleagues,

July 1 marks the beginning of the Fiscal Year for the National Human Resources Association. As with any organization, we set about achieving the goals and initiatives we have developed for the coming year as well as measuring our performance and evaluating accomplishments from the previous year. Although our strategic planning typically takes place prior to the start of the FY, it is not a static process. Throughout the year, we are constantly reevaluating the link between what we want to accomplish and the means with which we’re trying to get there. Simply put, we want to “fine tune” what is working and change what isn’t.

Ultimately, success for NHRA means that we’re aware of and responsive to the changing field of Human Resources, our programs and events are effective and well attended and our member benefits are meaningful. As an NHRA member, prospective member or guest, everyone who is involved in this organization has some level of interest in their own professional development or the development of others in our field. As part of your personal strategic planning process, I encourage each of you to take stock of your professional goals. What are some ways you can take your knowledge bank to the next level? Aside from the endless webinars on administering leave and teleconferences on worker’s compensation or health insurance trends, how are you rounding out your skill set?

Whether it is through attaining a PHR/SHPR/GPHR certification, pursuing an Associate’s, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, attending networking events or monthly NHRA programs, enrolling in an HR Certificate program or even volunteering on an NHRA committee, each of us is responsible for the care and feeding of our own professional development. Although it may require moving outside of our comfort zone or rearranging our schedules and priorities, if we are an active participant in that process, we are guaranteed to grow. I think you will find the rewards to be enriching and possibly in ways you might not have expected.

I wish all of you success and growth in the coming year with the care and feeding of your professional development. If you have comments or questions as to how NHRA can assist you in that process, please let us know.
