Sharmyn Calhoun
Sharmyn is a seasoned HR, legal and risk executive that has worked in a variety of organizations from a startup company to large corporate organizations such as Citibank N.A. In her current role at Citibank N.A., Sharmyn is a Senior VP Partnership Governance, where she provides oversight and guidance to Citi Senior leaders regarding the Retail Partnership Channel through review of financial, operational, risk, human capital and compliance key risk indicators. In this role she ensures that necessary approvals, controls and accountabilities are in place for the build out of this new channel.
Sharmyn was elected to serve as the national president of the NHRA for two terms, 2012 – 2013 and 2013 – 2014. She has been involved with the NHRA for over 10 years and previously served as the president of the St. Louis Affiliate before being elected as the National President Elect and then president of the organization. In her role as President of the National Human Resources Association, she provides strategic direction to the Association and the six U.S. Affiliates (So. Florida, St. Louis MO, Rochester NY, Ventura CA, Los Angeles CA, and Orange County CA) Chairs the Executive Board consisting of six National Executive Board members along with a National consultant to the Board and the National Administrative Executive. Guides and counsels the Executive Board and Affiliates in proper performance of their fiduciary duties and help drive the strategic vision of the organization. Regular executive and leadership meetings are conducted to monitor progress of the Association and resolve any issues that the Association may encounter.
As the president of the organization, Sharmyn would like to encourage members of the National Human Resource Association to consider joining a local Affiliate Board or the National Board to further shape their careers and their experience. With the economic downturn we have all experienced, training budgets and tuition reimbursement being cut or all together eliminated and with job openings scarce in every part of the U.S., fulfilling Board roles is an alternative way for HR professionals to develop skills, gain knowledge and network with other HR professionals from around the country to help build a career of their dreams.
