Sr. Manager, Compensation and Benefits

Position Summary:

The Total Rewards Manager is responsible for planning, designing, implementing and administering a comprehensive total rewards strategy, programs, policies and procedures in alignment with company goals and competitive practices. The specific processes included are compensation, benefits, and payroll. This role and the team it leads is also responsible for ensuring the programs are consistently administered in compliance with internal policies and government regulations. This role manages the employees who support compensation, payroll and benefits processes.


  • Develops and implements compensation and benefits programs; oversees the administration of these programs as well as payroll.
  • Assesses the effectiveness of current programs in achieving organization objectives; identify best practices and benchmarks; and develop recommendations for modifications to align to HR strategy and business goals.
  • Supports annual compensation planning processes in collaboration with HR Operations
  • Designs creative solutions to specific compensation and/or benefits related programs and incentive plans.
  • Develops and implements salary structure and administrative guidelines in accordance with compensation policy.
  • Analyzes company compensation policies and practices in relation to government wage and hour regulations, market rates for similar jobs in comparable industries and/or geographic areas, and recommends changes as appropriate to establish and maintain competitive rates, internal equity and compliance
  • Recommends special compensation programs, commission or incentive systems for all employees or for specific groups to support the organizations objectives.
  • Supports annual compensation planning processes in collaboration with HR Operations
  • Plans and directs implementation and administration employee benefit programs such as medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurances, workers compensation, retirement and other plans.
  • Reviews and analyzes the benefits market to determine employee needs, trends, regulations and practices and develops competitive programs to meet company goals.
  • Prepares and communicates information to employees and former employees as applicable about benefit programs, procedures, changes and government mandated disclosures.
  • Monitors administrators and insurance carriers reports to ensure the organizations compliance with plan requirements.
  • Serves as subject matter expert on leaves of absence including FMLA, short term disability and workers compensation claims. Resolve leave related disputes and benefit issues
  • Partners with HR colleagues to ensure that all compensation and benefit programs are implemented in alignment with Deltas people strategies and in compliance with legal and other regulatory requirements.
  • Provides work direction and supervision to team members supporting payroll, compensation and benefits. Responsible for talent management activities including recruiting, development, feedback/coaching and engagement for these employees.

Experience, Education, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business or other related field. Masters degree is beneficial. Related certifications such as SHRM Certified Professional/Sr Certified Professional, Certified Compensation Professional, Certified Employee Benefits Specialist credentials are preferred.
  • Minimum of six years of progressively responsible experience in Total Rewards (compensation, benefits, payroll, wellness) including experience with self insurance.
  • Experience with vendor relations and multi-state employers preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency and technical aptitude using spreadsheets, HR and Payroll applications as well as general proficiency in word processing, presentation software, email, etc
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local regulations and compliance requirements related to compensation and benefits (such as ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, FLSA)
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret and communicate data
  • Previous leadership and team management skills
  • Excellent time management skills including ability to plan and set priorities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills in dealing with various levels throughout the organization
  • Proven ability to maintain highest degree of confidentiality
  • Self-starter with ability to thrive in an extremely fast-paced environment.
