The Legislative Analyst’s Office (LAO) is a dynamic, merit-based organization that values excellence, expertise, teamwork, service, and diversity.

The LAO has provided nonpartisan fiscal and policy analysis to the California Legislature since 1941. The primary activities of the LAO are to:

  • Assist the Legislature in all aspects of the budget process through its analytical and oversight activities.
  • Respond to legislative requests for information about and analysis of the state’s budget and programs.
  • Conduct independent studies and produce self-generated reports on topics of importance to the state.

They deal with real-world problems that directly affect the public and assist the Legislature in setting budget priorities and state policy for one of the world’s largest economies. Working independently as well as in teams, they serve as the eyes and ears of the California Legislature to ensure that state-funded programs are operating in an efficient and effective manner.

The Position

The Human Resources Coordinator is responsible for outreach, recruitment, hiring, training, and professional development activities for all positions. In addition, they assist in leading and implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion activities as well as propose, develop, and communicate changes to internal office policy. They act as the primary human resources point person for staff and work on other duties as assigned by the Legislative Analyst. This position reports directly to the Legislative Analyst.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have very strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. They will have a broad knowledge of Human Resources as well as general administrative responsibilities. The HR Coordinator will be able to work autonomously and efficiently to ensure the end-to-end running of HR projects and operations.

Salary and Benefits

The salary for this position is $6,461 to $9,092 per month ($77,532-$109,104 annually). The LAO also provides a comprehensive package of health, vision, dental, and retirement benefits. In addition, the LAO provides vacation, sick leave, compensatory time off for overtime above a specified level, and about 13 holidays per year.

Minimum Qualifications

Competitive applicants meet or exceed the minimum qualifications listed below: A bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field that includes actively supporting, coordinating, and/or overseeing DEI strategies and initiatives. Plus, three years of human resources experience or equivalent combination education or experience. Experience completing human resources functions for a government agency preferred. Master’s degree preferred.
