Located in the Trans-Pecos region of West Texas, Reeves County is bordered by New Mexico on its northern edge and the rugged Davis Mountains to its south. Altitudes, including those in the Davis Mountains, vary from 2,538 to 4,210 feet above sea level. Pecos, the county seat and largest city, is home to the Reeves County government offices. With a population of about 16,000 residents, Reeves County comprises 2,642 square miles. In 2020, it was named the #1 Most Dynamic Micropolitan area in the U.S. by the Walton Family Foundation for a second consecutive year.

Reeves County is seeking a collaborative and charismatic Human Resources Director with the knowledge and skills to establish a new department. A highly ethical individual who values open and transparent government, and who responds to challenges diplomatically and strategically, will be perfect in the role. As Human Resources Director and an active member of the executive management team reporting to the County Commissioners, this position will lead, guide, and direct all activities of the new Human Resources Services Department, including all recruiting and hiring, onboarding, compensation and benefits program development and administration, regulatory compliance, employee relations, performance development, and engagement. The role will provide ongoing counsel and support to the County Commissioners on all employment matters as needed to ensure the overall health and wellbeing of the organization.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field and at least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in human resources, including as a supervisor. Local government experience and qualifications as a Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), Certified Professional (SHRM-CP), Professional in Human Resources (PHR), or similar are preferred. Experience working with elected officials is a must.

The salary range for this position will be $105,000 to $135,000 dependent upon qualifications. Reeves County is offering an excellent benefits package including medical, dental, and life insurance.
