Talent Management & HR Director, Advancement

As a member of the University of Rochester’s Advancement staff and reporting to the Associate Vice President of Advancement Administration, this position will oversee the strategy, execution, and evaluation of the department’s talent management and engagement team. Under minimal supervision, this role will oversee recruiting, interviewing and hiring for all positions, including working closely with search firms on faculty level hires, and career path lifecycles of these employees. The Director will work closely with the UR compensation team and Director of Finance to redesign and implement all compensation programs and will provide counsel and oversight of the areas of compensation and equity, benchmarking statistics and reporting for the Advancement industry and compliance initiatives. In partnership with the UR central Human resources office, this role will oversee performance management, including handling performance issues and development plans, personnel records management, leave administration and other human resources areas.

Additionally, this role will oversee employee relations and engagement, to include Engagement Committee and the Gallup relationship, survey and consortium of peer institutions.

This position will interact heavily with all levels of Advancement employees and University leadership, including the Executive Management Team. The Director will integrate best practices to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the delivery of human resources talent management and develop applicable solutions to business challenges through networking with peers. This position will be responsible for retention, succession and talent mapping in partnership with Advancement managers and Executive leadership. This position will be responsible for managing a team dedicated to overseeing the talent management functions for the University Advancement operation.

Bachelor’s degree preferred

5 years of professional experience within a large organization and 2 years in a managerial position or an equivalent combination is of education and experience required.

Previous experience in Advancement and human resources preferred

Experience managing up, down and laterally in a complex environment required.

Excellent verbal, written, and analytical skills required.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and database programs required.

Basic knowledge of state and federal hiring laws preferred.

Basic knowledge of leave administration policies preferred.

Occasional travel is required.
