Manager, Global Compensation, Benefits and HR Operations

The Manager, Global Compensation, Benefits and HR Operations is responsible for the planning, design, implementation, communication and administration of all Glaukos compensation and benefits programs globally, to support the organization’s business strategy & objectives.  Further, this position will be responsible for all HR operations or administrative duties such compliance, HRIS and other duties as assigned

Lead the development and alignment of the compensation and benefits strategy, programs, across the global organization, balancing external market competitiveness and internal resources.

Work in partnership with external vendors, brokers and consultants in compensation and benefit areas to ensure the company is positioned competitively and stays current on market trends and changes in the high tech industry

Partner with HR leadership and Legal to ensure compliance with all benefits, wage and hour laws.


-Administers benefits programs such as life, health, vision and dental insurance, vacation, sick leave, leave of absence, and employee assistance.
-Manage annual US open enrollment; prepares materials and reports as needed
-Global benefits management: work with vendors and local teams to drive competitive benefits in different countries.  Understand both statutory requirements as well as market competitiveness. Study legislation and collective bargaining contracts to ensure Glaukos is compliant
-Responsible for administering company retirement plans (traditional 401(k)) and establishing pension programs as required or needed in each country.
-Responsible for the onboarding and off boarding of all employee programs and benefits.
-Responsible for benefits compliance with provisions of governmental regulations including ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, ACA Reporting, 5500 filings, Summary Plan Documents, Non-Discrimination Testing; reviews and analyzes changes to state and federal laws pertaining to Benefits and reports necessary of suggested changes to management
-Administer, direct, and review employee benefit programs, including the integration of benefit programs following mergers and acquisitions, if applicable.
-Manage the design and development of tools to assist employees in benefits selection.
-Mediate between benefits providers and employees, such as by assisting in handling employees' benefits-related questions or taking suggestions.
-Contribute to the development of health and welfare benefits strategy and direct the design, implementation, communication and cost control of health and welfare benefit programs for employees globally.
-Manage the benefits budget, monitor actual expense to plans and build partnerships within finance to ensure accuracy and timeliness of accruals.
-Responsible for education of employees on all benefit programs, including health benefits, ESPP and stock
-Responsible for the successful implementation and maintenance of insurance file feeds, including health insurances, FSA, HSA, 401k & supplemental insurances
-Responsible for the development and launch of company wellness program
-Partners with the payroll and accounting team to ensure accuracy of benefit-related invoices and system configurations

-Work with vendor to develop compensation programs, where needed.  Use benchmark data to evaluate positions, ensuring internal equity
-Contribute to the development of compensation strategy and direct the design, implementation and communication of all compensation plans, policies and programs.
-Provide leadership, guidance and direction while ensuring the deployment of the company’s compensation programs including annual salary planning/merit increase process, salary structures, variable pay and other incentive programs to ensure alignment with company’s goals, initiatives and budget guidelines.
-Ensure appropriate financial controls are in place for incentive-based compensation programs.
-Prepare detailed job descriptions and classification systems and define job levels and families, in partnership with other managers.
-Provide leadership and direction around participation in market data initiatives, evaluating and preparing competitive benchmark data analysis as required.
-Partner with cross-functional teams on M&A activity conduct compensation mapping, if applicable
-Analyze compensation policies, government regulations, and prevailing wage rates to develop competitive compensation plan.
-Recommend metrics to determine funding, equity vehicles (mix of options, RSUs, Performance Shares) and methods to distribute bonus and equity to organizations and employees.
-Partner with Legal, Finance, and external resources on stock administration and to complete the annual proxy statement.
-Support VP, HR to design, develop and manage all aspects of our global executive compensation programs, ensuring that they meet the needs of the business, are market competitive, and are compliant with legal requirements and internal policies and procedures, including global regulation.
Leave of Absence:

-Assists in returning employees from transitional duty as well as evaluating ADA accommodations as needed. Monitors intermittent FML form employees as needed.
-Manage US leave of absence programs including FMLA, ADA, Worker’s Compensation and state required leaves.
-Management of the  Glaukos Maternity Leave program

Human Resources Operations:

-Responsible for management of HRIS system- processing transactions, creating reports and other functions
-Work with outside legal counsel in all direct and newly enter countries to develop employment contracts, and established policy’s that are legally compliant locally. Understand employment landscape, prior to entering proposed countries and consult with senior management on the current environment, costs and other considerations.
-Manage and maintain Affirmative Action program.  Work with HR Managers to communicate and establish a plan to meet any imposed goals.
-Management of EEO-1 & VETS-100 annual submissions
Manage and maintain Workers’ Compensation program. Work with external vendors on renewals, implementations and audit of programs.
-Management of annual and ongoing mandatory harassment training
-Develop a plan and administer compliance training
-Responsible for the management and oversight of the E-Verify system
-Maintain records and compile statistical reports concerning personnel-related data such as hires, transfers, turnover, and absenteeism rates.
-Be the point of contact for HR on all updates, interfaces or recommended changes in SyncHR
-Maintain employee handbook, manage and maintain all HR governed policies
-Oversee all immigrant and non-immigrant visa matters.  When needed, develop a formal Global Mobility program that is competitive, scalable and sustainable
Minimum Job Requirements:


-Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance or other related area, Master’s Degree preferred

-CCP (Certified Compensation Professional) or progress toward certification preferred

Work Experience:

-8+ years of global compensation and benefits experience.  Global experience highly desired.
-Demonstrated experience in total rewards design and implementation
-Demonstrated compensation experience in the following areas: executive compensation, base salary, market pricing, variable pay and performance management, job evaluation, data analysis, research and cost modeling
-Proven ability to gauge effectiveness of the organization's compensation and benefits programs and translate data into solutions to continually improve programs and practices.
-Benefit experience including knowledge of health and welfare plans, Leaves and time off practices, and retirement plans.
-10+ years of relevant experience: Compensation, HR and Benefits managing processes and technology
-Understanding of HR principles, laws and practices.
-Technical understanding of HR Systems, how they work together and the downstream impact of data quality.
-Effectively translates quantitative and qualitative data into actionable insights, strategies and plans and can articulate data visually and in an understandable manner
