The Director, U.S Benefits Operations will provide direction and drive all Benefits operations in the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada. S/he will be accountable for the leadership, implementation, communication, and continuous development of the Benefits functions including health and welfare, retirement, equity, and work life administration. The Director, U.S. Benefits Operations ensures that the delivery of all benefit programs are consistent with Merck's strategy and mission and meet budgetary, legal and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure operational excellence and optimum efficiency through rigorous oversight and management of all U.S. Benefits operations including health and welfare, retirement, equity, work life.
  • Drive greater awareness and the appropriate utilization of all benefits
  • Create a culture of continuous improvement and flawless delivery
  • Deliver benefits in a way that focuses on end-to-end delivery throughout a participants life-cycle that results in a positive participant experience each and every time they have a benefits experience
  • Oversee annual benefit contract renewals and partner with Benefits CoE on the evaluation of program changes
  • Contract with and actively manage benefit plans, suppliers, auditors, and consultants for services, premiums, and plan administration
  • Ensure benefits plans comply with federal and state laws and regulations, and that processes and controls are in place to ensure ongoing compliance
  • Direct the employee benefit program communication strategy
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the market dynamics, key competitor benefit plan design, and industry trends
  • Provide oversight for Supplier Relationship and Risk Management for the Benefits operations
  • Manage a team of benefits professionals, fostering collaboration across functions to accomplish objectives

Qualifications Education Minimum Requirement:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a related field, Master degree preferred
Required Experience and Skills:
  • Minimum of 12 years of related experience, with minimum 4 years of leadership and management experience
  • People management experience
  • Leadership in the area of Benefits Design and Operations
  • Experience influencing executives in complex global organizations
  • Experience negotiating large, complex contracts with external suppliers
  • Project management skills: Clear demonstrated expertise in the scoping, development and management of enterprise-wide projects coupled with proven change management
  • Identifies operational effectiveness and efficiency opportunities and provides impactful solutions for continuous improvement
