Reporting to the Fire Chief, the Chief Human Resource Officer serves as the senior level advisor on human resources matters to the SMFR's Board of Directors, the Fire Chief, and the Executive Team. As a member of the Executive Team, the CHRO provides leadership to the organization in the development and implementation of human resources strategies to ensure alignment with SMFR’s Vision 2020 and is responsible for the strategic planning and overall management of the Human Resources Bureau and SMFR human resources programs. This position models and supports an emphasis on problem-solving, innovation, collaboration, effective relationships and continuous improvement with a proven track record of human resource strategy development and implementation. The Chief Human Resource Officer leads a talented and dedicated team of five (5) staff and an operating budget of approximately $1.4 million.

A Bachelors’ degree or higher in Business, Human Resources, Psychology, Public Administration or a related field is required in addition to a minimum of ten (10) years of comprehensive human resources management experience including supervision of human resource professionals. Specific experience leading a broad range of human resources functions is preferred.
