2015-16 President's Thank You From Adam C. Dennis - St. Louis MO
May 25, 2016

Dear Members:

This past year I have had the great privilege and honor to serve as your President. My hope is that I have been able to maintain the proud history of National Human Resources Association - St. Louis (NHRA-STL) and help each member feel informed and a valuable part of the organization. In my initial President’s letter I said that my focus as President is to represent you well and be available to the membership to continue to make NHRA-STL a great place for HR professionals to learn and grow. I hope I have been able to do that for each member.

I would like to thank each of our annual, monthly, and event sponsors this past year. Without them we would not be able to provide the programs you enjoy, like our Summer Connections networking event, the variety of topics at our monthly lunch meetings, and our Legal Update that I felt were all timely and informative.

My Board of Directors and their respective committee members were the foundation to my successes and the cushion to my failures throughout my term. It may sound cliché but I really could not have done it without each of them. They are the hidden rock stars of each President and deserve each accolade.

I am pleased to highlight a couple upcoming opportunities offered to our current membership and prospective membership:

Summer Connections Networking Event:  We hope you will attend our annual networking event that promises to be a fun evening full of good food and a chance to mingle with other Human Resources professionals. We will have door prizes at this event!!!!  It will be Wednesday, July 20, 5:30 to 7:30 pm, at Third Degree Glass Factory (5200 Delmar Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63108). Please visit http://www.humanresources.org to register for this event. It is free for all to attend.

HR Professional Certification Study Group:  It is time to start thinking about your certification. NHRA-STL hosts a 12-week preparatory study group for the PHR and SPHR certification. The study group meets on Thursday evenings starting September 8 through December 1 at Lutheran Hour Ministries (660 Mason Ridge Center Drive, St. Louis, MO 63141). The study group is designed to provide a structured review of materials and insights from subject matter experts to prepare the HR professional to take the certification exam during the winter testing window. Please email Kalyn Brantley-McNeal at kalyn.brantley-mcneal@lhm.org with questions or visit http://www.humanresources.org to register. It is free for all current members or $250.00 for non-members.

Once again, thank you and I hope to see you at one of the upcoming events. To learn more about our membership and benefits, visit http://www.humanresources.org. We would love to have you join us and see you at our events.

We will resume our regular monthly lunch programs this September and we hope to see you at our annual Summer Connection networking event coming up on July 20! On behalf of the NHRA-STL, thank you and have a great summer!

Sincerely,

Adam C. Dennis, MBA, PHR, SHRM-CP

President's Welcome: 2015-16 - St. Louis MO
September 9, 2015

Dear Members:

Over the past seven years, I have had the great privilege to meet many HR professionals and vendors during my membership with the National Human Resources Association - St. Louis (NHRA-STL). As a result of membership, I have built a professional network and personal friendships that will last and have come to love and appreciate this great organization. I want to thank you for entrusting me with the responsibility of serving as your President for 2015-2016; I am truly honored and will represent you well.

NHRA-STL has a proud history spanning over 50 years providing education, professional support, and networking to HR professionals from across the St. Louis region. Our membership encompasses many different types of organizations and industries from healthcare and financial to service, government, manufacturing, and non-profits. We believe this diversity provides a unique atmosphere that fosters opportunities for learning, networking, volunteering, and growing as an HR professional.

We are pleased to present some  upcoming events that highlight how these opportunities are offered to our membership:
  • PHR/SPHR Certification Program: NHRA-STL hosts a 12-week preparatory study group for the PHR and SPHR certification. The study group meets on Thursday evenings starting September 10 through December 3 at Lutheran Hour Ministries (660 Mason Ridge Center Drive, St. Louis, MO 63141). The study group is designed to provide a structured review of materials and insights from subject matter experts to prepare the HR professional to take the certification exam during the winter testing window. Please email Kalyn Brantley-McNeal at ((kalyn.brantley-mcneal@lhm.org)) for more details about joining. It is not too late to join!
  • September Lunch Meeting: NHRA-STL hosts monthly lunch meetings from September through April at Ces & Judy’s (10405 Clayton Road, St. Louis, MO 63131). Each meeting provides opportunities to rub shoulders with your fellow HR professionals, hear a brief legal update, and engage in a relevant presentation about HR topics. Our lunch meetings are typically approved for one recertification credit for both HRCI and SHRM certifications. Our next lunch meeting will be on September 24 at 11:30 am - 1:00 pm. This meeting will discuss the process, challenges, successes, and failures the team at McCarthy Building Services, Inc. encountered as they designed, implemented, and enhanced Talent Acquisition services at their company. Our speaker, R. J. Morris, will cover the many lessons made as they started from scratch - with no full-time recruiters - and built a successful function of over ten years. Thanks to the St. Louis Regional Employee Relocation Counsel (ERC) for sponsoring this month’s meeting. Register to attend by visiting our website [[https://goo.gl/FWX4IR]].
My focus as President is to represent you well for 2015-2016 and be available to the membership to continue to make NHRA-STL a great place for HR professionals to learn and grow. I take my new responsibilities very seriously and am extremely grateful for the opportunity before me.  Once again, thank you and I hope to see you at one of the upcoming events we host. Together, we can make NHRA-STL an outstanding organization and continue to help HR professionals to Connect, Excel, and Lead!

Dear NHRA Members,

I am excited to share the eBook, “The Rise of HR: Wisdom From 73 Thought Leaders,” led by Dave Ulrich, Bill Schiemann, Libby Sartain and sponsored by the HR Certification Institute.  The editors of the book ask, “What do HR professionals need to know or do to be effective in today’s and tomorrow’s business world?”  We invited organizations, associations and companies from around the world to participate; it was a 100% voluntary effort and the book is available at no cost to the reader.

Available today, The Rise of HR highlights the critical issues facing business and talent professionals who are addressing the growing trend of people as a primary driver of an organization’s success.  I encourage you to download a free copy of The Rise of HR at www.riseofHR.com.  The entire book provides a diverse and comprehensive look into the matters transforming human resources.

Our goal is to reach one million HR professionals.  The authors are distributing the eBook to their networks and memberships as well.  Please help us reach one million – let’s be the catalyst for the rise of HR.

Sincerely,

Membership Drive - National
New members joining the association before November 21, 2014 will receive a $25 discount on their membership dues!

We know how great the National Human Resources Association is!  Do you and your colleagues?

On behalf of the National Human Resources Association at both the National level and with the affiliates, we would like to take this opportunity to announce our annual membership drive!

We encourage you to share our organization with others and encourage them to join us.  During the time period of September 24, 2014 through November 21, 2014 we are extending a $25.00 discount on a National Membership or a local Affiliate Membership to new members.

WHAT DO OUR MEMBERS SAY?
“I like the national exposure the association can provide.  As an executive, my experiences and viewpoints are most often strategic and analytical in nature.  I have enough career experience to understand the fundamentals of HR and the HR associations do a good job targeting those HR professionals.  I need something to help me focus on the bigger picture – managing C level and board expectations, or moving into a CEO or COO role, etc. “

WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME?
• Opportunity to develop relationships and contacts in other companies to share information on HR concerns;
• Exposure to other HR professionals and companies revealing how other organizations handle various HR situations, procedures, policies, etc.;
• Access to a network of professionals and specialists providing HR information;
• Availability of local professional development opportunities to improve your HR competence;
• Opportunity to earn continuing education credits towards recertification;
• Access to current best practices to make your organization more efficient, increase employee commitment, and help line managers carry out business strategy;
• Availability of up-to-date information pending legislation that may impact your company’s operations;
• Opportunity to develop leadership skills by taking on a volunteer leadership role in a local chapter; and
• Development of a reputation and credentials in the HR field through your involvement in a local chapter.

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?  COME AND JOIN US NOW!
Apply today by completing a membership application [[https://www.humanresources.org/website/c/index.php?page=join]] or talk to your local Membership Committee!
