New York’s Paid Family Leave Benefits Law is slated to become effective on January 1, 2018.  This law will provide a generous benefit to employees as well as operational challenges for employers in New York.
Where many human resources professionals have become adept at assessing and processing employee requests for leave and benefit entitlements under statutes such as the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act and state disability laws, New York’s Paid Family Leave Act will provide an additional layer of complexity to this already complicated subject of employee absences.  From updating policies and preparing processes, to training managers and advising executives, Human Resource professionals have much to do to prepare during the next six months.
