The Ventura County Sheriff Officer’s civilian response to active assailant course is intended and designed to teach non-law enforcement persons better skills and decision-making abilities should they be confronted or involved in an active assailant situation.

Sergeant Damian Alvarez 

Ventura County Sheriff's Office

Sergeant Alvarez has worked with the Ventura County Sheriff’s office for over 25 years. Current, Sergeant of the Thousand Oaks Stations Community Resource and School Resource Officer Units. Alvarez has worked assignments in custody, court services, patrol, K-9, Intelligence led policing, investigations, and the firearms cadre. Alvarez has taught civilian response to active assailant for the past six years throughout Ventura County and personally seen the aftereffects at both the Borderline Shooting and the Westlake High School Attack.
