Book Synopsis:

The Next Conversation

If you’ve ever wished tough conversations felt easier, or that you could stay calm, clear, and confident even when the pressure rises, this book club pick is for you.

In HR, communication isn’t just a skill—it’s the backbone of culture, trust, and organizational health.

In The Next Conversation, Jefferson Fisher, a New York Times bestselling communication expert, offers a practical, real world framework for transforming how we speak, listen, and connect. Fisher distills his widely followed communication tools into a simple three part system:

Say it with control. Say it with confidence. Say it to connect.

His approach aligns directly with the daily realities of HR: deescalating conflict, coaching leaders, supporting employees, and modeling communication that strengthens relationships rather than fractures them.

Book club will be hosted and facilitated by NHRA – Rochester member Sean D’Abreu! Reflection questions will be sent one week in advance.
